The Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) proudly supports Eco‑Schools NI through sponsoring our Energy Topic and sponsorship of our Eco-Teacher of the Year and Eco-Pupil of the Year awards — helping recognise and celebrate the commitment of young people and educators across Northern Ireland to sustainability, energy efficiency, and environmental education.
Energy Saving Week & awareness campaigns — As the Home Energy Conservation Authority for Northern Ireland, NIHE plays a leading role in organising and promoting Energy Saving Week: a week-long campaign that encourages households to reduce energy use, cut carbon emissions, and save money. More info here.
Home Energy Advice & tools — NIHE provides a free online home energy-saving tool (developed in partnership with the Energy Saving Trust) so that households can assess how energy efficient their home is — and receive recommendations on upgrades, insulation and other energy-saving measures. More info here.
Schools’ Competitions & Eco-Projects — Through its Sustainable Development Unit, NIHE runs annual eco-competitions (in partnership with Eco-Schools NI) open to primary and post-primary schools. Pupils have created “eco-villains / eco-heroes” to highlight energy efficiency, climate change and renewable energy. Winners receive eco-laptops and funding for their school to invest in eco-projects. More info here.
By sponsoring our Eco-Teacher and Eco-Pupil awards — and by working closely with schools and communities through Energy Saving Week, eco-competitions and energy advice programmes — NIHE helps Eco-Schools NI:
Recognise and reward young people and educators who take climate action and lead by example.
Provide practical, real-world learning opportunities about energy use, home efficiency, and sustainable living.
Encourage pupils to bring eco-conscious behaviours home — influencing not just their school, but their families and communities.
Support long-term behavioural change by giving households access to tools, grants and guidance to reduce energy use and carbon footprint.
