The Centre for Global Education is a development non-governmental organisation (NGO) that provides education services to promote global learning, which is a participative and experiential form of learning designed to engender new skills, values, attitudes and knowledge that enable pupils to understand the factors that underpin poverty and injustice around the world. The Centre regards action as a central outcome of the global learning process and encourages learners to actively engage with development issues to bring about positive social change both locally and internationally. We deliver activities in the formal and informal education sectors, produce publications and carry out research on global issues and education practice. The Centre managed the Global Learning Programme in Northern Ireland from 2014 to 2018. Our website hosts over 50 video, written and snapshot case studies of global learning practice in schools across Northern Ireland as well as global learning classroom resources and information on upcoming global dates and training opportunities. You can sign up to our E-newsletter for schools here.
The Centre has been contracted by the British Council from 2018-2021 to manage delivery of the new Connecting Classrooms through Global Learning (CCGL) programme in Northern Ireland. This programme offers schools a flexible menu of opportunities to help pupils and teachers across the world become critically engaged and active in the issues that are shaping their lives. Schools can request assistance in finding an international partner school and then apply for grants to fund reciprocal visits and collaborative learning projects with them. Training opportunities in global learning are available to all schools, including bespoke in-service training and CPD days on global learning themes.
