DOE promotes the ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’ message for waste management through the Rethink Waste Campaign. A dedicated campaign website www.rethinkwasteni.org contains a ‘schools section’ which provides advice as to how schools can rethink the management of their waste. The website encourages schools to enter the Environmental Youthspeak competition and sign up for the Eco- Schools Programme.
The DOE Rethink Waste campaign will be providing support in the current and next financial year mainly through funding for the Eco-Schools Programme and the Environmental Youth Speak Competition.
Environmental Youth Speak (EYS), now in its 13th year, is an annual public speaking competition open to pupils throughout Northern Ireland. EYS is organised by Northern Ireland’s three Waste Management Groups.
